Tegan and Sara – Northshore (Music Video)

August 16, 2010 § Leave a comment

As previously mentioned, Tegan and Sara are releasing ‘On Directing’ and ‘Northshore’ from the Polaris Prize nominated Sainthood. The ‘On Directing’ video was released a short while ago, and now here’s the one for ‘Northshore’. Let’s rock.

Plus, as a nice little bonus, here’s the Quins performing ‘Feel It In My Bones’ (the track they did for Tiësto’s Kaleidoscope) acoustically for La Blogotheque’s ‘Les Concerts à emporter‘ (which is still one of my favourite websites/things EVER).

Comedienne Maragret Cho’s new album Cho-Dependent is set to be released August 24th and features various guest stars including the lovely Tegan and Sara. This was reported a while back but now we get to hear the actual track. Head over to Spin to hear ‘Intervention’, a tinkling and jaunty pop song about…well, just that. There’s even a mid track skit of the Quins trying to stage one for Margaret (it’s just pretend OF COURSE..I’m sure the vomit was too). There’s also a nice background to how the song came about and how the trio found working together. This is one of the very few times Tegan and Sara have collaborated on their songwriting; it’s nice to hear them adding an element of humour into their songs. Margaret Cho + T&S = win.

NO MORE HUGS TIL YOU GIVE UP DRUGS.

Tegan and Sara are set to release both ‘On Directing’ and ‘Northshore’ from their sixth studio album, the Polaris prize nominated Sainthood. Both videos were directed by Angela Kendall who also directed videos for ‘Speak Slow‘, ‘Call It Off‘, and the DVD which accompanied fifth album The Con.

‘On Directing’ is the first video to premiere. Watch it below. The video for ‘Northshore’ is set to drop August 10.

Steel Train – Album Stream (+ Tegan & Sara cover!)

Steel Train’s new, self-titled album is streaming at their website right now. I love it. You should too. I posted ‘Turnpike Ghost’ quite a while back, it’s still one of my favourite tracks and sounds fresh on the album despite the fact that I have listened to it probably around 20(0) times. Another favourite is ‘You and I Undercover’ which perfectly highlights Steel Train’s ability to write highly effective love songs without being sappy in the slightest.

My favourite thing about Steel Train has always been their energy; the level of fun and emotion found in their music. This record is no exception. Listen now.

Along with the new record, the band are releasing Terrible Thrills Vol. 1, which is the entire album covered by female artists. The artists include Tegan & Sara, Amanda Palmer, Rachael Cantu and Holly Miranda. Basically my dream album. Oh, and Scarlett Johansson. Ha kidding, she has a good voice. Alia Shawkat is even on there!! (She’s Maeby from Arrested Development, remember? Apparently she can sing too).

I think it’s a fantastic idea and I can’t wait to hear the full thing. For now, you can hear Tegan & Sara’s cover of ‘Turnpike Ghost’, which premiered over on Stereogum today (you can also download the original song if you don’t have it already). Tegan & Sara’s cover was made with Andre Allen Anjos of RAC, and the result is bloody amazing. What with it being my all time favourite duo covering my favourite ST song there may be a little bias involved. Listen for yourselves and see what you think.

An Horse

An Horse are a great band. I recently listened to their debut album Rearrange Beds for the first time since being completely obsessed with it last year. It still sounds just as fantastic. The band consists of Australians Kate Cooper and Damon Cox, who are currently writing new material for a follow up album after a year of touring in their own right as well as providing support for Tegan and Sara on their Canadian tour.

Their songs are so beautiful because of their simplicity. There’s no flashness, no pretence – just a guitar, drums, and great lyrics. And the occasional tambourine. Someone (I think randomly it may have been Edith Bowman) recently said that an album is only as meaningful as the time you dedicate to it. Rearrange Beds is definitely an album that I would recommend you spend some time with. You won’t regret it.

My favourite track from the album is ‘Scared As Fuck’, listen to it below:

Tegan and Sara Quin in co-ordinated dance shocker!!

The video for ‘Alligator’, the second single from Tegan and Sara’s sixth studio album Sainthood, premiered yesterday on MySpace and on Much Music in Canada. Seeing as neither of these are viewable by us UK fans, you can enjoy this terrible quality YouTube clip! [Update: terrible quality clip has been removed, better quality clip has been uploaded. Merci]

This has made my day.
