[Music Video] Marina & the diamonds – Radioactive
August 22nd, 2011 § Leave a Comment
Marina & the diamonds just premiered her new single ‘Radioactive’ on Radio 1, and the accompanying video on her official site.
Marina had already said this single would be different to her previous material, and well…it is. It’s electro-pop at it’s best, and has much more of a dance feel than anything on The Family Jewels. In true Marina style though, the lyrics reference heartbreak and emotional turmoil…perfect.
Crystal Castles – Baptism (Music Video)

Crystal Castles just released the video for ‘Baptism’. It’s honestly one of the worst videos I’ve seen recently; Alice Glass sways and bops like her usual maniacal self, Christopher Chartrand (I think, could be Ethan?) drums whilst wearing an extremely creepy mask, footage of backstage areas and burning houses play in the background. The production values seem shoddy and there’s really nothing special to report. It does all seem to fit in with the band’s ‘we don’t really give a fuck attitude’ though.
So why post?? Well, Crystal Castles drew me into a trance-like state of fandom whilst seeing them perform at Leeds Festival. This song struck the killer blow, and therefore anything relating to it must be mentioned. You don’t really need to look at the video I suppose, just listen and let the raving begin.
Marina & the diamonds – Oh No! (Video Premiere) + David’s Lyre Remix

After a very leaky weekend, Marina & the diamonds has released the video for her new single ‘Oh No!’ a day earlier than planned. It’s just as amazing as the previously posted ‘behind the scenes’ video led us to believe it would be, with the cartoon/pop-art side of Marina & the diamonds perfectly showcased. It’s like a clip from ZZZap! (if you don’t remember it you are either far too young or far too old), with the colours, speech bubbles, and choreography adding perfectly to the already energetic vibe of the song.
Watch below! (And if you’re anything like me, have the chorus routine learnt within 3 watches)
You can also get the amazing David’s Lyre remix of Oh No! free here. David’s Lyre is fast becoming a favourite of mine, expect a post in the next couple of days…
There’s also the Sanna & Pitron Club Mix of the song. I’m not a big fan of club mixes in general, if you are you’ll probably enjoy this:
Kylie Minogue – All The Lovers (Video Premiere)

Kylie is back. And she’s brought a humongous, naked, writhing human pyramid with her. Which strangely makes me like the song a lot more…watch it below.

Beyoncé – Why Don’t You Love Me (Video Premiere)

Beyoncé is STILL releasing songs from I Am…Sasha Fierce. No seriously, have I counted wrong or is this the NINTH single to be taken from it?! Surely that has to be some kind of record?
Anyway, numbers aside, Beyoncé has just released the video for this single, which is set to be released May 17th (although it has already reached the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart).
The video features Ms. Knowles as ‘B.B.Homemaker’, a stylish woman who likes to drink, do housework, and dust off her, oh I don’t know, SIXTEEN GRAMMYS..as you do. There’s crying on the phone, there’s car fixing, there’s a bubble bath…and I like it. It’s shot differently to most videos at the moment, the fact that it doesn’t have a glossy sheen to it it rather nice. It’s a kickback to the olden days, and somehow manages to portray Beyoncé classily even when she’s lying on the floor trying to sip the last dregs of her martini.
The fact that this song is taken from an album released 18 months ago is also pretty impressive. It’s not her best song but it still manages to sound fresh, and full of the attitude we’ve come to expect from Beyoncé.
M.I.A – Born Free (Video Premiere)

The video for M.I.A’s new song ‘Born Free’ just dropped and it’s interesting to say the least.
It contains sex, violence, police brutality…about as NSFW as you can get. Not for the fainthearted.

It’s well shot and I (semi) understand the message it’s trying to convey, but it all seems too severe. With M.I.A it has always been about more than music, her political beliefs have always played a big part in what she does. Which is admirable of course, but now it seems to be taking on more of an importance than the actual music. When this song first dropped most people were excited and then forgot about it a few minutes later….until this video. Now it’s getting A LOT of coverage.
I don’t even have a fully formed opinion here, I’m just wondering…..anyone else have any thoughts?
Ellie Goulding – Guns and Horses (Video Premiere)

The next single from Ellie Goulding’s no.1 album Lights is ‘Guns and Horses’, set to be released May 7th. Ellie had this to say about the track:
“I wrote Guns And Horses about a romance that began online (hence the lyric ‘you found me, at a screen you sit at permanently’). I wanted the guy to feel more than he did for me but through no fault of his own he couldn’t. It’s a song about frustration essentially. My producer made me laugh at the end, I can’t repeat what he called me though.” (Read what she had to say about the rest of the tracks on the album here)
The video was filmed in Griffith Park in Los Angeles and features forest exploration, theatrical military-costumed dancers, and of course, guns and horses. Plus the irreplaceable and ever-endearing Goulding arm movements.
A really nicely shot video. We like.

Hot Chip – I Feel Better (Video Premiere)

Hot Chip’s new video for ‘I Feel Better’ premiered yesterday. The clip, directed by none other than Peter Serafinowicz, stars comedian Ross Lee as a frankly terrifying bald, white-robed, Jesus type figure who proceeds to laser the hell out of a band (very) closely resembling JLS. The whole thing creeped me the hell out, but it’s definitely memorable. Nice work Mr Serafinowicz.
Lady GaGa & Beyoncé – Telephone (Video Premiere)
March 12th, 2010 § Leave a Comment
The build up to this video has been intense. Does it live up to all the hype? Hell yes. GaGa delivers an epic 9 minutes and 32 seconds of craziness involving fights in a women’s prison, the poisoning of a restaurant full of people, the infamous ‘Pussy Wagon’ from Kill Bill, and some epic dancing-whilst-dressed-as-the-American-flag. The product placement involved is insane and annoying but these days it should be expected.
I honestly admire GaGa’s willingness to stand up to her critics and face the accusations thrown at her. “I told you she didn’t have a dick”.
