This Gucci Mane Memory Tapes remix is quite good isn’t it?

Marina & the diamonds – Obsessions (oOoOO Remix)

November 24th, 2010 § 1 Comment

This incredible remix from oOoOO has just surfaced. He (Christopher Dexter Greenspan) has taken Marina & the diamonds’ ‘Obsessions’ and transformed it into a dark, synth-laden, emotionally wraught track. The original was emotional enough, with Marina’s dramatic vocals accompanied by crisp and crescendoing piano chords. Here however, the vocals are echoed and drawn out, adding a mysterious and laboured effect to the song. The original featured a woman questioning a relationship; here she tortures herself over where it went wrong, as both vocals and instrumentation echo and reverberate. Get the track for free here at Neon Gold.

I already liked oOoOO, but now I quite adore him.

I posted the video for Robyn’s latest single, ‘Hang With Me’ a while back. And just because I love her so much, here are the remixes as well. Enjoy!

Marina & the diamonds – ‘Oh No!’ Video Update + Remixes

June 23rd, 2010 § Leave a Comment

The next single from Marina & the diamonds is ‘Oh No!’, one of the most wonderful tracks from The Family Jewels. It is set to be released July 26th, with the video (directed by ‘Hollywood’ director Kinga Burza) dropping next Tuesday (June 29th). Vogue filmed a ‘Making Of..’ for their website which you can view below. It features “zany neon” colours, choreography, latex dresses, burgers stuffed with dollar bills and Marina wrapped in bubble wrap. This is going to be an AMAZING video.

Two remixes of the single have surfaced so far, from Grum and Active Child. Active Child completely changes the track, leaving only a few vocals which are chopped and staggered over heavy dub-like beats and synths, giving the track a whole new heavy electro feel. Grum leaves the majority of the vocals intact but layers them over a heavier dance beat, adding synths and electro elements that give the track much more of a club vibe. Both are remixed well but my playcounts tell me I’m favouring Grum’s…

Thanks goes to Sheena Beaston and MuuMuse for bringing us the remixes, head here to Sheena Beaston for the Active Child remix, and here to MuuMuse for the Grum remix.

N*E*R*D – Hot-n-Fun (Starsmith Remix)

Starsmith uploaded his remix of N*E*R*D’s latest single ‘Hot-n-Fun’ (feat. Nelly Furtado) onto his Soundcloud a couple of days ago. The song has been around since April and I wasn’t particularly a big fan but I have a lot of love for this remix. Maybe it’s because the sun is finally making an appearance, maybe it’s because I like any song that makes me want to dance, or maybe it’s just because Starsmith is so good at sprinkling his sparkling beat dust onto tracks. This is being added to my SUMMER JAM 2010 LIST.

Passion Pit – Sleepyhead (Neo Tokyo Remix)

Neo Tokyo has been doing some fantastic remixes. Ellie Goulding’s ‘Guns and Horses’ EP (and 7” picture disc), featured his re-working of the song; another favourite of mine is his version of Passion Pit’s 2008 song ‘Sleepyhead’. The song retains its original level of energy and fun, but a heavier beat and bassline are added, much increasing the likelihood of me being found dancing to it….

I love the fact that even though this is an old, much played song, this remix makes me love it all over again.

Ellie Goulding – Guns and Horses (Remixes)

Guns and Horses is Ellie’s next single, set to be released May 17th. As with every other Goulding single so far, the remixes are springing up fast.

Ellie herself has expressed a liking for Monsieur Adi’s effort, I personally prefer the James Rutledge remix. Monsieur Adi has turned it into a six and half minute epic, drawing out the vocals and adding more strings, building up into a frenetic beat. It’s great but a little too drawn out for my liking. James Rutledge jumps right in, using more echoed vocals and heavier beats giving it a more industrial sound…and he adds claps AND clicks. Maybe I’m just a sucker for those….

Marina & the diamonds – I Am Not A Robot (CLOCK OPERA REMIX)

April 26th, 2010 § Leave a Comment

The day has finally come. Marina & the diamonds’ ‘I Am Not A Robot’ gets it re-release today, along with an amazing remix package. Which includes the long awaited, long overdue, much hyped, Clock Opera remix. Was it worth the wait?

For the first minute of the track I didn’t think so. But then I realised that Clock Opera have not only reworked the music, adding soaring strings and pulsing piano parts, they’ve taken Marina’s vocals and spliced them to create new lyrics altogether. “Our love faded / Our love faded.” Incredible work from Clock Opera, I can guarantee that you’ll have this one on repeat, and have that line stuck in your head, for a long time.

Marina & the diamonds – I Am Not A Robot EP

April 8th, 2010 § Leave a Comment

As previously mentioned Marina & the diamonds’ next single is ‘I Am Not A Robot’, set to be released April 26th. The EP is set to feature the aforementioned remix from Passion Pit, as well as contributions from Clock Opera and Doorly. The Clock Opera remix has been highly praised by both Marina’s label 679 Artists and Neon Gold (who went as far as to say it was their favourite remix ever. Yes EVER!) so understandably I am quite looking forward to that one. Get this limited edition signed 7” from Pure Groove while you can!

You can also hear a remix by Fool’s Gold (and download the free mp3) over at The Fader. Fool’s Gold have definitely infused their own sound onto the track, making it less of a remix and more of a ‘Robot’/’Surprise Hotel’ mash-up. Not that it makes a difference, it’s very listenable and makes Robot more of a danceable jam!! Get the Penguin Prison remix (also great!) whilst you’re over there..thanks Fader!

Marina & the diamonds – I Am Not A Robot (Passion Pit Remix)

Marina & the diamonds’ next single has been announced as ‘I Am Not A Robot’. Yes, you’d be right in thinking that it has already been released as a single, but now that Marina is receiving a considerably higher amount of attention, it seems only right to re-release her favourite song from debut album The Family Jewels and let it get the proper reception it deserves. Or something like that.

Passion Pit, Marina’s label-mates from Neon Gold Records, have remixed the track, and certainly made it their own. The essence of the song, and Marina’s distinctive vocals, are still there, but the verses and chorus have been broken up and extra synth and drum parts thrown in. If the re-release of the song means more remixes of this quality this will appear, I will be pretty satisfied.

Where Am I?
